2013 Meetings at Ceasar’s Palace in January

The 2013 United Professional Horseman’s Association’s national convention is set to take place January 3-5 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.   “Pure Excitement” is the theme for ths year’s event hosted by Chapter 1.

Competition Heats up Kansas City This Week

The 2012 American Royal horse show kicked off today in Kansas City  The show is once again hosting the UPHA (United Professional Horseman’s Association) National Championship and runs November 13-17. The very best Saddlebreds, Hackney Ponies, and Road Horses from UPHA chapters throughout the country will come to Kansas City to compete for more than $200,000 in prize money and the prestige of being national champions.

The show columinates with the National Championship Stake Night (Saturday Night), where  National Champions will be crowned in 14 Classes.

Two Age Brackets Offered

Show manager Kent Moeller announced that two sections of the AHHS Youth Medallion Road Pony Class will be held, a 13 & under and a 14-17. Both of these classes will be held on Thursday afternoon and will qualify for the Junior Exhibitor Road Pony Championship on Saturday.

The UPHA/American Royal National Championship will be held November 13 – 17 in Kansas City, Missouri’s Kemper Arena. Judges for this year’s performance division include Michael Craghead, Ricky Harris and Don Judd. Craghead, Marilyn Macfarlane, and Nancy Troutman will officiate in the USEF Saddle Seat Medal Finals, while Dale Arnston, Sally Lindabury and Liz McBride-Jones will mark the cards in all UPHA

Superior Sales Horse & Tack Auction This Weekend

Hackney Ponies, Tack & More to Be Offered

The 2012 Superior Sales Horse and Tack Auction is fast approaching.  Its new dates are this weekend -  October 26 and 27. 

The event will be held at the St. Louis National Equestrian Center, a climate-controlled facility providing a horse show type atmosphere with easy access by air and interstate.  It’s conveniently located between Interstate 70 and Interstate 64 in Lake Saint Louis, Missouri, approximately 25 minutes from the St. Louis International Airport.

All auction activites will take place on October 27th beginning with the tack auction at 8am followed by two horse and pony sessions at 1pm and 7pm.  Consignments are continuing to be accepted for tack, horses and ponies. Tack items may be brought to the Equestrian Center beginning on Thursday, October 25th.  There is a 15% commission charges with a $1.00 minimum commission on all tack.

2012 Mid-West Hackney Sale Just Around The Corner

Sale to be held Oct. 20 at the IL State Fairgrounds

he popular Mid-West Hackney Fall Sale will be held at the IL State Fairgrounds in Springfield, IL, on October 20.  The sale will be held in the Livestock Center on the fairgrounds and will once again offer a something for everyone, from top show ponies to breeding stock to futurity prospects. 

This sale takes consignments of Hackneys, American Shetlands, American Show Ponies and Welsh.  The consignment form is available for download on the Mid-West Hackney website at www.midwesthackney.com  Deadline to be in the sale catalog was September 21, 2012, but consignments will be accepted up until October 15.  Consignments are published on the association’s website.

St. Louis Charity Horse Show

Having a little horse show withdrawal? Then check out the last few days of the the St. Louis Charity horse show that runs through Sunday, September 30.  Saddlebred week for the St. Louis Charity Horse continues today, Saturday and Sunday (September 28-30).  This horse show hosts a number of national championship events for Saddlebreds and features great class offerings for Hackney ponies as well, with Hackney competition finishing up on Saturday evening.

Unfamiliar with the St. Louis Charity Horse show?  This event started back in the 1850s and is considered the first horse show west of the Mississippi River.    Each year, the show supports and highlights different St. Louis-area charities while offering up a great equestrian competition.  This year, the show is supporting Stray Rescue of St. Louis and Therapeutic Horsemanship which conducts the Horses for Heroes program.

The event takes place at the National Equestrian Center in Lake St. Louis, MO . It is a recognized show for the USEF and UPHA among others.

Fun Activities still on the agenda include Friday evening’s exhibitors’ party on September 28 and Saturday evening’s vendors’ party.

Some great society pony competition is still coming up. Friday night will see the Hackney Amateur Roadster championship as well as the Medallion Class.  Other Hackney driving championships will take place throughout the day on Saturday.  Check out the competition on the live streaming at www.seehorsevideo.com

September 29 ~ Sulphur Springs, TX

A national caliber small equine auction will take place Saturday, September 29 at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center in Sulphur Springs, TX. The event, which begins at 11 a.m. sale day, will offer at auction nearly 100 high-quality Miniature Horses, American Shetland Ponies and other pony or small equine breeds.

Offerings at the sale come from some of the best breeders and show stables in the south and Midwest. Many top bloodlines will be included.  Some consignments represent excellent opportunities for breeders to add quality breeding stock or enhance their breeding problems.  Other ponies or Miniatures being sold are trained and ready for the show ring.  Additionally, a limited number of small equine available through the North Texas Sale are suitable for kids’ ponies or for physically or mentally challenged individuals.

“This is an established sale that many Hall of Fame, national and Congress champions and top tens, and a Performance Pony of the Year have been purchased through,” noted Tina Porter, one of the sale’s sponsors.

The first North Texas Pony Sale was held in 2002. Since that time, eight sales have been held, all offering quality consignments, to great success.  Breeders and show stables look forward to this sale both as buyers and sellers.   Porter noted that many individuals have been able to obtain outstanding stock through the North Texas sale. Presently, staff is beginning work on a post 2012-show season issue of the American Society Pony Ezine.  We will include coverage of shows such as the 2012 ASPC Congress, MO State Fair and hopefully other big shows like Illinois, Louisville and more.

We are currently accepting a limited number of FREE ads for this issue for individuals, farms or stables who plan to advertiser successes with their society ponies at major shows.  Free ad space will be given to the first 20 advertisers.  Materials must be submitted by October 3.

Creativity Contest to be Held During Annual Convention

This contest, held in memory of one of ASPC’s most creative members, helps remind everyone that not all equine endeavors take place in a pasture, barn or arena.  Some equine lovers combine their passion for ponies with their artistic talents to create lovely art or to take captivating horse photos or to write amusing pony poetry.

The American Shetland Pony Club has a program that celebrates and rewards this unique combination of ponies and creativity – The Sue Price Memorial Creativity Awards Program.  Each year, members of the ASPC are encouraged to enter some of their pony-related artwork or projects in a special competition held at the association’s annual convention.

This year, the Creativity Program will take place in conjunction with ASPC’s annual meetings in St. Louis, MO, on November8-10.  To participate, you must be a member of the American Shetland Pony Club.

The 2012 All American Horse Classic begins Tuesday evening in Indianapolis. The show features classes for Hackney Ponies among other society breeds, and the bulk of the competition begins with the Wednesday morning session.  The event runs through Saturday and culminates with Saturday evening’s championship night.   You can watch it free online at www.seehorsevideo.com.

What’s Happening on Tuesday at the World’s Championship

Competition continues at the 2012 World’s Championship Horse Show in Louisville.  Sessions are being streamed live on AHSALive at the usefnetwork.com.  Visit http://usefnetwork.com/featured/2012ksfwchs/ during the live streaming to catch all the action.  This year, the webcast is being presented by Merial.

Many activities are going on today in conjunction with the show.  The program of Stall Talks and Barn Tours continues with talks today at 11 and barn tours at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.

Youth activities get started at the WC with the free scavenger hunt for junior exhibitors 17 & Under, entered to show or not. Youth may pick up the hunt list at the Saddlebred Center in Freedom beginning after Tuesday morning’s session.  The event runs four days. Participants who submit their completed scavenger hunt forms will be entered in a drawing to win a flip video camera.
