2013 ASPC Congress Set to Go Back to Des Moines

At the recent national convention of the American Shetland Pony Club, the association's national board voted to return its National Congress to Des Moines.  The show is set to take place at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in July 2013. Stay tuned for more information.

Welsh Pony & Cob Society Opens Part-Bred Welsh Registration Option.

As a way to recognize and promote the impact of the Welsh breed in all disciplines, the Welsh Pony & Coby Society moved to include part-bred Welsh into their registry effective in January 2012.  For more information such as qualifications for this new Welsh Part-Bred registration option, check out the news release on Society Pony Online “Association News” section under the menu option for “Other Pony.”

ASPC Youth Contest Seeking Pony Donations -  For 2012, the American Shetland Pony Club's Youth Committee is foregoing its Congress Essay Contest and will instead conduct an all-registry, non-show-based essay contest.  Presently, donations of small equine is being accepted.  The application and selection process for donations will run through February 15. After that, an essay contest will be conducted this year and promoted through the ASPC youth website and the association’s official publication.

AHHS 16th Annual Limited Breeders Wealing Stake is now contracting stallion service donations.  Stallion services for the 2012 auction for a 2012 breeding must be enrolled by January 15 in order to be published in the stallion service catalog.  Eligible foals from this Hackney program can compete in the 2013 weanling class or the 2016 three-year-old competition.  For more information, watch for the related article elsewhere on the Society Pony website.  Or visit the American Hackney Horse Society website.

ASPC Futurity - 2012 Futurity nominating and sustaining forms are now available for downloading from the ASPC website! The following is a new rule beginning with the 2012 Classic Futurity:  The Futurity Program has been extended to a FOUR YEAR Program for Classic Shetlands beging with nominations in 2012.  Also, a note regarding ALL Shetland Futurity nominations: Foals Must Be Registered By Dec. 31 of the foaling year. Non-registration will result in a nominated Shetland being ineligible in future year.

ASPC Convention A Success The 2011 annual meeting for the American Shetland Pony Club, Inc., took place Nov. 3-6 in Portland, OR.  There were several clinics, committee meetings, rule changes, awards presentations and more.  Watch for detailed coverage of the event on Society Pony Online.


2011 ASPC Trainers Auction Raises more than $10,000. The annual fundraising auction held by the ASPC Trainers Committee in conjunction with the club’s annual banquet raised more than $10,000 this year.  The hosting area is granted part of the funds to help offset the costs of hosting the convention.  However, this year, Area VIII graciously passed on accepting any funding from the auction. All proceeds from this year’s auction will go to the youth and amateur awards sponsored by the Trainers Committee. Additionally, Area VIII is donating additional money raised by the raffling of a Lutke Harness to the Trainers Committee to benefit the youth and amateur awards as well.

2011 ASPC Creativity Contest took place at the annual convention in Portland.  The event is held in memory of long-time member Sue Price.  The competition celebrates and rewards the unique combination of ponies and creativity.  This year, the contest drew more than 60 entries in categories such as drawing, photography, literary, humor, textile and more.  The association provides prize money to the winners, voted on by members attending convention.  New this year, a private benefactor added additional prize money for the Adult People’s Choice winner and the Youth People’s Choice Winner.  Those 2011 recipients were:  Melissa Roberts, Adult People’s Choice for her black & white photograph of a Fancy Turnout entry at the 2011 Congress and Katie Clark, Youth People’s Choice for her roadster scrapbook shadowbox.

2011 World's Championship Horse Show Video Footage Now Available on Demand.  Friday and Saturday evening classes at the KY State Fair World's Grand Championship show are now available courtesy of AHSA and USEF.
