  • A Once in a Lifetime Find

While browsing Shetland Pony items on eBay recently, Dennis Robison chanced upon a bit of Shetland, Hackney, and Welsh history he had never before seen. As an avid collector of literature pertaining to these three breeds, Robison had already put together an amazing personal library.  Yet, the item he found was even more remarkable. The title of the item was "Price List No. 49 - Shetland, Welsh, and Hackney Ponies - Heyl Pony Farm, Washington, Illinois". What this price list (which is actually a 22 page booklet plus covers) contained was not just a listing of available ponies but it also included a number of newspaper article reprints about Heyl ponies, photos of Heyl ponies (Shetlands and Hackneys), as well as four pages of pony equipment. The Heyl price list has no date on it but based upon the show results and birth dates of ponies advertised it appears to have been printed in 1930.

  • American Show Pony Registry Awards First Halter Hall of Fame Honor

Synergy TAP (BigNRich FMF X Peddler's Carnation), bred and owned by Trace Anderson of Triangle Acres  in Askov, MN, became the first American Show Pony officially entered into American Show Pony Registry’s Hall of Fame in the Halter division.

The Hall of Fame is one of the American Shetland Pony Club’s top honors for the equine it governs.  Established in 1967, the Hall of Fame recognizes ponies receiving high levels of show ring achievement in their lifetime.  HoF recognition is earned based on success in the show ring. Winning against other ponies is essential.

The ASPC established the American Show Pony Registry in 1995, giving an important outlet for larger Shetlands, smaller Hackneys and crosses between those two breeds.  Since the ASPR was first established, the show options and competitions for these dynamic, animated and brilliant ponies has grown. The first ASPR Performance Hall of Fame was awarded in 2000 but no pony had been recorded for Halter HoF honors until 2011.
